Scratch is a visual programming language built by MIT for kids. Students snap colorful blocks together to make games and animations, and along the way they pick up the ideas every programmer uses, like loops, conditions, and variables. It feels like play, which is exactly why it works.

Python is a real programming language used at companies like Google and Toyota, and it sits at the center of AI. You write actual code from the very first lesson, building small games and tools while learning to think the way an engineer does. It works just as well for a 12 year old as for an adult starting from zero.

For anyone who wants something to show at the end. You build a real site or a small app with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, pick up Git along the way, and put it somewhere people can actually visit. Kids usually start with a page about something they love, and adults tend to bring the project they have been meaning to make. Most people get there in about four sessions.
